Fed: Howard to prioritise early intervention programs

The PM's promised to prioritise funding for early intervention programs .. after a
study found big economic gains could be made .. by heading off problem behaviour in children
early on.

The Pathways to Prevention Project .. which involved almost 400 Queensland families
.. found the earlier bad behaviour is identified in children .. the less problems they're
likely to be burdened with when they're older.

Mission Australia and Griffith University .. which conducted joint research on the
project .. released their findings from the first five years of their study in Canberra
today.

JOHN HOWARD .. who attended the launch .. says he's a great believer in early intervention
programs .. because they return enormous economic and human dividends.
