FED: Most people think top income tax rates too high

One in two voters think the top personal tax rate is too high, but even more Australians
want federal budget surpluses to be spent on health and education instead of tax cuts.

The Australian newspaper says a special Newspoll study highlights a dilemma for the
federal government and opposition as they prepare their competing election policies.

The Newspoll found a widespread view that the top 47c tax rate is too high - an opinion
shared by many of those workers who would never face it.
